The revitalisation process is embarking upon a new stage informed by the consolidation of a broad platform of strategic infrastructures, where renewed social values will lead to the process’s culmination, positioning Metropolitan Bilbao and, by extension, the entire Basque Country, within the context of Europe’s most advanced and competitive areas. The turning point involves a shift from infrastructures to people. Bilbao’s future involves constructing a society of values.
This was the framework for the presentation in January 2005 of the review “Now, The People”, showcasing the Association’s work in the study, definition and implementation of the strategic values for Metropolitan Bilbao. The successful implementation of values in a society requires a progressive strategy. This implementation will be rendered possible by a process of continuous improvement, whose remit will be to ensure that the key values are identified, understood and embraced to an ever greater extent by a growing percentage of the population. This makes it expedient to establish a series of milestones, one of which is the Forum of Values for City Development held in Bilbao in 2006. It covered the five values of innovation, professionalism, identity, community, and openness.
