International Seminar. Metropolis of the future.

Urban territories require a continuous innovative and creative effort to develop initiatives that ensure job creation, economic development and quality of life of its inhabitants. In this context, the Bilbao Metropoli-30 Association is organizing a new edition of the International Seminar. Metropolis of the future, which took place in March, 2023 , under the title “Stay human. Be sustainable”.

These seminars consists of a series of conferences offered by international experts in various branches of knowledge, which seek to make evident the challenges that regions and metropolis are facing, as well as to provide long-term ideas and technical proposals with great intellectual appeal that help to launch study and research projects aimed at deepening knowledge of the situation, as well as promoting the participation and collaboration of all those public and private actors that can contribute to the success of the revitalization process.

2023’s edition of Metropolis of the Future took place on Thursday, 30 March in Euskalduna Bilbao, and highlighted the importance of sustainable human development, presenting the work carried out in the Basque Country to date and inviting, on this occasion, other international examples that can contribute to raising awareness in this aspect and offer good practices in their path to implementing the SDGs.

The programme began with a high-level institutional opening with a keynote address by the First Minister of Wales, Mark Drakeford, who spoke on the challenges and opportunities of the demographic and social transition, preceded by the General Secretary for Social Transition and the 2030 Agenda of the Basque Government, Jonan Fernández.

Then, there were 3 debate sessions with the participation of a Bilbao Metropoli-30 partner organisation and an international expert speaker, who discussed various initiatives linked to issues such as the future of inclusive communities, urban spaces tackling sustainability challenges and urban planning for livable metropolis.
