Chairman
The General Assembly appointed Mr. José Antonio Garrido Martínez as Chairman on May 9th of 1991.
José Antonio Garrido is PhD in Industrial Engineering and Graduated in the High Management Programme at IESE.
Former Deputy Chairman of Iberdrola, Chairman of Gamesa, vicepresident of EHN, president of GESTEC and president of the Internacional Advisory Council of MAPFRE Global Risk, boosting more than 300 research projects with companies, universities and technological centers in the Basque Country. Creator of the Iberdrola Science and Technology Prize and the Visiting Professor Program, Chairman of Large Spanish Scientific Facilities Committee, Vicepresident of COTEC Foundation, Duero Internacional Operations Committee member, adviser of different framework programs of the European Union, member of the International Committee on Large Electric Systems and member of the European Round Table of Industrialist (ERT).
In his education aspect, he has been a professor at the School of Industrial Engineers of Bilbao, a professor at the University of Deusto, President of the Social Council of the University of Deusto and President of the Altuna Foundation. He is Honorary Doctorate of the University of the Basque Country, Gold Medal holder of the University of Deusto and Patron of the Foundation of the University of Deusto.
Currently is Chairman of the Association for the Revitalisation of Metropolitan Bilbao (Bilbao Metropoli-30), president of the Basque Metropoli Foundation, Academician of the Royal Academy of Engineering of Spain, Puig Adam Medal winner (Foundation for the Fostering of Innovation), Honorary Consul of Bilbao, Academic (Member) of the Academy of Sciences, Arts and Letters of Eusko Ikaskuntza (Jakiunde) and member of the Strategic Committee of IK-4 and advisor of SME and family companies.
